Font(s) Du Jour: Mrs Eaves Sans & Modern (!)
Yes, this deserves and exclamation mark. It's hard not to like the serifed Mrs Eaves, and to now have these new additions to the family just makes me so....happy :)

i love you more than letters in the mail.
I love, love getting personal, handwritten notes in the mail. Part of why I do what I do is that I want to perpetuate this notion--getting a piece of paper, writing something down, addressing it and physically mailing it to someone. Everything is intentional and it takes a bit of effort, but the result is always worth it. This type of correspondence will never go out of style.

Yesterday, someone's effort resulted in a smile (from me!) when I received this sweet note from the folks at paperwhite studio. They are a graphic design firm based in NY, and if you haven't heard of them, I suggest taking a second to peruse through their website. I esp love their logo/identity work...

They started this fun and interactive project called "i love you more than______." Where they collect people's responses and post them on this website as a way to evaluate the value of something by measuring it up to something else. Make sure to check it out and spread the love :)

SO friggin' cute
Ok, gonna relish in some girlie-ness just to warn you...Found this embroidery book cover on Bird and Banner (whose work is also equally super cute) and just had to share. It's that perfect blend of vintage-crafty-modern-fresh-fun-simple-timeless look that's just so attractive and so difficult to pull off (unless you're from Scandinavia)!

Vintage Flair
I don't think I will ever get tired of the decorative and ornate especially those influenced by Victorian and Art Nouveau styles. From architecture to interiors and to graphic design, it's a look I naturally gravitate to. I came across illustrator Susan Burghart's work via designworklife and just had to share the love.

I love her playful use of typography here.

There's something about her color palette and use of collage that's able to walk that fine line of looking vintage and modern at the same time.

Design + Craft
Metal type and woodcuts were used for the printing of these Balvenie whisky labels. I love how the whisky, as well as the labels are made by well-established craftsmen and that the design pays tribute to their tradition.

Heavenly Type
When designing, you often deal with images and letters as separate entities. When there is type involved, you set it in a way that compliments the image while still conveying the information clearly. I love it when the line gets blurred--when the type becomes the image or part of it--like these beautiful constructions by Si Scott.
