Off the Press: Feldman identity

The production on this was a doozy--letterpress front on white cardstock, white foil on grey chipboard on back, duplexed together! Also came with a matching notecard with the same specs. Definitely proud of how they turned out :) Designed by my pal Anjel.

Interesting shop tidbit: this was the job I was trimming that got me sent to the ER.

Holiday Ornaments at Poketo!

Anjel and I met up with Ted and Angie of Poketo about a month ago when they were in town. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Kirala (their almond crusted shrimp tempura is to die for) to celebrate Angie's birthday and to catch up on each other's busy lives over the past year or so. Lots of talk about travel, inspiration, food, and all things that make life good :)

Ted mentioned that he enjoyed receiving my valentine's card this year-- a letterpressed heart on coaster board that I made into an ornament with a hand-written note on the back. The act (or art) of receiving (and giving) a special note and sending by normal post is still not lost among us. The fact that it's tangible, purposeful and thoughtful makes that piece of ephemera that much more meaningful--a true keepsake! So with this thought in mind, we all collaborated on a special item for the holidays, Letterpressed Ornament Cards. You can use them as holiday cards, gift tags, or to decorate your tree...

Patterns by Anjel (inspired by her travels), letterpressed by yours truly and can be purchased at Poketo. There's only a very limited run so get them while you can!

Olive-Route for Waterbox!

My friends at Cabbage Design (who have currently left for a year sabbatical) commissioned a bunch of artists to create some designs for their client, Waterbox--a stainless steel water bottle company. They did an awesome identity for this startup before they left and now the bottles have launched and can be bought through various retailers. The first one being R.E.I.!

I designed this one for them called "April" and it can be purchased here. Check it out and a bunch more designs are also available.

Random fun with Anjel: Travel Postcards

I'm re-visiting this post with my previous shopmate who has since left to travel for a year (or so). We had some fun ideas when she was here of what to blog about, but now that she's gone, I thought it would be fun to post the mail she sends me during her travels. I'll try to do this on a regular basis...

This one is hilarious! The outfit on this lady is so random. Just in case you can't read her note, it's worth repeating:

"Ahead of her time, she took:
1 part Lady Gaga (or Bowie)
1 part All American Hero
2 parts Lehman Caves
a touch of dramatic lighting, and a postcard star was born."















I mentioned to her that she can use found paper as postcard just in case she's backpacking in the middle of nowhere and only has a napkin (or leaves) on hand. Not sure where she tore this from (somewhere in Utah), but I got it and it works!

Random fun with Anjel: Spicy and Sweet

My good friend, Anjel Van Slyke of Cabbage Design has taken up temporary office space in the back half of my studio before she embarks on a journey with her husband around the world. Similar to Richard from nextdoor, I feel I need to share her with you and have regular posts. All week, we've been trying to brainstorm on what her posts would be about. So, after enjoying a couple margaritas on a friday afternoon to celebrate the end of a busy work week, we've simply titled it "Random fun with Anjel."--weekly segments of creative compositions on the fly, an insight into the mind of this alarmingly talented and refreshingly silly friend of mine.

The challenge we gave ourselves is that we can only use props that's readily available for the compositions. So for this post, it's about Sweet Anjel vs. Spicy Anjel. Which do you prefer :)




















The cupcake was given to us by my super intern, Kristen from this wonderful little bakery down the street called Love at First Bite. And the gilded frame was borrowed from nextdoor at St. Hieronymus Press, and yes--they have this kind of stuff laying around because it wouldn't be a printshop without a gold victorian frame, duh!





















I have to preface this by saying that Anjel does NOT smoke and is one of the healthiest people I know, which is why this is so silly. And to make it even more badass, that cigarette is this special brand of unfiltered kind and practically illegal. Can't disclose where I got this prop, I would have to kill you first :P (Sorry for the blurry pic, blame the margarita)
