Two weeks ago, my C&P press motor decided to start sparking on me during printing. I haven't had it checked out in years, so I figured that was probably a sign for me to call my press mechanic. I find it ironic that a person like me ends up running a machine for a living when I know nothing about them! But that's why I leave this kind of thing up to the pros :)
Good news is that it only needed new brushes, which was a pretty minor repair. My awesome mechanic, Greg, was in and out in a couple of hours. Bad news is that for some reason, the belt all of a sudden decided not to fit after he left! Two completely unrelated things but with these old machines, unexplainable quirks are just part of the package and no one knows why the belt decided not to fit after the motor got new brushes. (??)
Lucky for me, I was able to recruit my sweetie, Chris and his dad Russ to come to my rescue! I was back up and running in no time and I've been busy printing everyday since.
Here's a pic of the loose belt on the motor...
Here they are working away! It was best that I stayed out of their way at this point...It was actually quite fun watching them tinker with my press, like kids in a candystore!
They re-mounted the motor on a new piece of plywood and adjusted it on its track to give the belt some tension to keep it from falling off.
Thanks guys! Don't know what I'd do without you :)
